Forest, 2010, commission for the facade of Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral, Germany

On the banks of the Lahn (a tributary of the Rhein) against a backdrop of woods, Künstlerhaus Schloß Balmoral was built by a Russian Count during the heyday of spa towns as destinations for those seeking 'the cure'. Wagner, Liszt and Dostoevsky amongst many others stayed in the house while visiting the clinics on the mountain opposite. The woods, the presence of clinics and a castle occupied by artists remain.

Forest, 2010 is a silent film projected onto both wings of the castle simultaneously. Mostly black and white, with occasional fleeting moments of colour, the film uses footage from other films where meetings, confrontations and visions have taken place in the woods. Excerpts from 12 films are edited together to form a half-narrative that repeats and evolves.
